The worrying sight of empty shop units in Tring's High Street has prompted councillors to urge residents to use the town's retailers.
Councillor Mary Booth raised concerns about the vacant stores during a Tring Town Council meeting on Monday, June 30.
Speciality food and gift shop Benellie recently closed on the High Street, while Lloyds chemist has moved to another location in
the road and Specsavers has relocated to Dolphin Square, leaving three units vacant.
Leader of the council, councillor John Allan said: "It is up to the people of Tring to support their local shops."
The plea comes as news of a national recession is at the forefront of many shopkeepers' minds.
Mayor of Tring Mike James added: "I feel very strongly that we should use local shops. I think may of them are competitive. I think we have got some great retailers."

Stop the car park charges and maybe it will easier to browse thru Tring High Street instead, without rushing around to beat the wardens, who seem to love Tring and are extra eager, but it seems your allowed to pull up in High Street and clog the traffic with nothing being done about this, its quicker to go to Aylesbury and take your time.

It's only Benellie that has closed down – the other shops are empty because the retailers have moved to bigger premises. Surely this proves we are using our shops if they need to expand? The powers that be need to attract new retailers and Tring residents will support them!
