Accountant Stuart Nagler has been appointed chair of Hertfordshire Police Authority.
Mr Nagler was elected into the post having been a member of the authority since 2003.

As well as these duties the former special constable is also a magistrate and chair of the Peace Hospice in Watford.

He said: "I 'm delighted and honoured that my colleagues gave this vote of confidence in my ability to lead the authority through the challenging times ahead.

"Hertfordshire has an excellent police force and it is our role to ensure that it continues to deliver these high standards.

"We must provide the strategic drive and direction for the force and properly hold the chief constable to account if Hertfordshire is to remain one of the safest counties in the country.

"Our ultimate aim is less crime, more detections and a greater feeling of safety for all our communities."
