Firefighters used a vacant care home in Hemel Hempstead to test out hi-tech kit in a mock high-rise rescue.
A dozen fire engines were involved in the exercise at Morton House off Alexandra Road in Hemel Hempstead at about 7pm yesterday (Tuesday, October 7).

Twelve dummy casualties were 'rescued' from rooms on the fourth and fifth floors of the building filled with artificial smoke.

And fire chiefs on the ground tested new command kit with digital maps and satellite tracking technology.

Retained support officer Jon Horastead said: "It was to test our high-rise practices.

"It was a unique opportunity to get a disused multi-storey building that we could use."
