When football fan Derrick Williams visited Tanzania, where he saw a young boy wearing a tattered old Liverpool shirt, the Hemel Hempstead council worker decided to use the worldwide love of football to start a new charity
.
Mr Williams, who works for Three Valleys Water, sent out his first box of recycled football kits to children in Africa in 1998.

Now he is celebrating the tenth anniversary of the charity he launched, called KitAid, that has since donated 70,000 kits to 46 countries in five continents.

Former Watford and England football manager, Graham Taylor, is patron of the charity and he joined 200 guests at Watford Hilton for the celebrations when £3,500 was raised from an auction and raffle.

Mr Williams said: "I am very proud of the work done by KitAids. We have spread so many smiles around the world.

"Every penny we raised from this fantastic night will go back into KitAid so we can continue our good work for the next ten years and beyond."
