Sun, sea and sand awaits
a youngster who beat
1,500 children to win a trip to Florida.
Little Gaddesden pupil Bradley Herbert, aged 10, wrote a news story about Happy Days TV legend Henry Winkler, aka The Fonz, who visited the
school in July.
The TV star's visit was part of a nationwide tour with the children's newspaper, First News, to celebrate the National Year of Reading.
During the tour the children were asked to write a news story and out of
1,500 to have entered, Bradley was one of 11 to win a week away to Florida in December.
Bradley said he was surprised to have won and was excited as he has never been to America.
The youngster has decided he will take his grandad with him.
"I want to take him because he works hard and he deserves it," he explained.
Little Gaddesden head teacher, Charis Geoghegan, said she was delighted
Bradley had won.
She said: "We're incredibly proud. It's lovely he will have the opportunity to go to America. It's great he's done so well because he is
such a nice boy."
You can read Bradley's story below:
On the 10th July 2008, Henry Winkler came to Little Gaddesden School all the way over from America for a school visit.
Whilst he was here, Mr Winkler was selling some of his books that he had written, and he was also signing them for you.
Henry and Nicky Cox, at 9:00am, went into the hall for a good morning assembly.
Henry Winkler and Nicky Cox talked us all through what and how he writes his books.
Henry Winkler is an author, a director and Nicky Cox is the main editor. He had visited 10 schools on his tour, and luckily we were picked for one of them. Henry had already written 15 books over in America and 5 books are being published over in the UK.
I thought Henry Winkler, and Nicky Cox were really nice people, and I am proud they picked our school to come and visit. Henry has Dyslexia, but still writes good books and he's still a good reader. He has published 15 books, but he wants to write about 20 books. Mr Winkler was born in New York City, and he has 3 children and they are called, Zoe, Max and Jed.
My friend Michael. A. thinks Henry is such a funny man, and he thinks he has written some fantastic books.
